The Perfect Year

It's new year’s eve I am in KK. My sis asked “Do you remember where we were same time last year?” “Errr…where ah?” Oh my God, I have no recollection what so ever. She rolled her eyes “Melaka, Mak Ngah’s house”..Ohh..That was New Year?? No wonder I couldn’t remember, it was good family time but too somber for a New Year celebration.

Anyway, let’s look back at the high and lows of 2005 just for the fun of it. I shall go through the list by awarding the best of each category. I’m in an award giving mood...

Joyride of the Year
The nominees are: Carrera 4S, CLK, SL500, RX8. Technically and logically this would go to Gt’s brand new black Porsche Carrera 4S. It was only one month old when I sat in it. But somehow, the joy of the ride couldn’t quite compare to Da’s not-new-at-all SL500. Why? Coz I was the one driving, and the ride home was even better – we were topless (the car, I mean). Amazing how much Da trusts me with his car though he has never seen me drive. Thank you, I love you! :D

Delusional Woman of the Year
Madam Sg Long! Unbelievable. She seemed so normal. What was even more unbelievable was the fact that the rest believed her. I guess that made them Believer of the Year. Hah! Over the years I have learned to accept people as they are – all their good and bad. Then I would decide whether to live with them or let them go. This one had to go. Same goes for the Believers.

Indulgence of the Year
My purse. Hehe…at this point of time la..wait till the bag comes! It’s exhilarating being able to buy beyond what we need but simply, what we want.

Fashion Statement of the Year
My PC-glasses. I have highly sensitive eyes. They are 90% of the time, red. They are sensitive to sunlight, wind, air-conditioning, the works. That makes 90% of the people think I'm wearing contacts. The fact is my vision is 20-20, perfect. Then why the glasses? Well, to protect them from laptop screen radiation. My eyes hurt since I got the laptop. Don't buy Toshiba, guys. Their screen sucks. And oh, while at it, I included UV protection too. Hehe.. all that is true but also a very good excuse to get the glasses. The real reason? It's just fashion, my dear. It completes the "boardroom" look hahaha... And mind you, it matches my hair color too :D Anyway, after the week-long compliments I received, voila...I have followers...ramai pulak yg reverted to glasses or upgraded their current ones. Hehehe..trend setter jugak aku yek..tak sesia jadik celeb...

Dress of the Year
Vietnamese outfit I bought for E&Y Dinner. Never-ending compliments till even weeks after the event. Sa still can’t stop asking about the shop where I bought it from. That good huh? It’s not the dress, it’s ME! Hahaha…perasaan of the year pulak dah.

Vacation of the Year
Vienna. The City is beautiful but God, the men are ugly. The women are so-so but the men… Germans have that reputation but no, Germans are not too bad actually. But Viennese men are easily the ugliest European I’ve seen and yes, I have seen plenty.

Dessert of the Year
Have you eaten manggis and durian? Have you been on Ferry Pulau Pinang? But have you eaten manggis and durian while cruising on Ferry Pulau Pinang? I have, together with the rest of the IAP team. It was an indescribable experience. The whole ferry, manggis and durian to ourselves. Excellent! Balik, pekene sup Hamid.

Gate-crasher of the Year
ML and anak buah (ke anak ikan? ;)) First, he got himself invited by his usual name dropping technique. Despite being told how strict we were on the headcount, he had the cheek to bring a guest with him (the anak ikan). Despite being told how exclusive (all guests were VVIPs) and if need be he may need to go to the lower deck, his guest and him actually sat on one of the VVIP tables. Then, he grabbed the mic from the designated MC and tunjuk pandai despite the fact that he doesn’t know what to say and made the original MC whispered the words into his ear. Then, he bad-mouthed the organizer to the PM & DPM’s bodyguards and was verbally abusive to Sb. And to top it all, after the event, he had the nerve to ask for payment for his unwanted MC-ing services!!!
I used to think he’s a diva – well, that’s how celebs are usually. But now, I think he’s just a BITCH!

Let down of the Year
Clarks. Tak best pun! Insole keras. Ya tripped herself, sprained an ankle and was on MC for 3 days. I have foot pain too if I wear it for long. And by long I mean half a day! Enough, I’m reverting to M&S.

Revelation of the Year
Wealth is nice to have but not necessary. I used to crave wealth but I guess we all crave what we don’t have. When it’s there, it’s no big deal. No, I am not wealthy yet but the revelation moment? I owe that to Gt’s super home and super cars.

Quote of the Year
“People first. Money, second. Things, last”.
Credit goes to Suze of CNBC. For a financial guru to say “money, second” is saying a lot indeed.

Event of the Year
CC Launch. I love this one. One of my best work this year. Can’t get enough of those compliments “awesome!”.

Adventure of the Year
AFF! Can’t believe I went through with it. Da, Ma: nice meeting you!

Feedback of the Year
“You are straightforward and NASTY!”
“What? Straightforward yes, nasty??” I gave Tc the fake hurt look – you know, the- hand-on-the-chest, wide-eyed, jaw-dropped look.
I know I’m blunt. Sometimes, too blunt for my own good but nasty? Well, feedback is feedback. I guess that’s his experience of me. Ok. Noted. Thank you for being honest :D

Romance of the Year
Ms. People been telling me my expectations are too high. Thank you, Ms, for showing me that what I’m looking for, exists.

Heartbreak of the Year
Also Ms. Short but simply beautiful. Not meant to be but no regrets. “Bukan Untukku…” I can’t be angry at him even if I wanted to…

Gift of the Year
The Val’s bouquet of lil teddy bears. Still there on my desk. Beautiful, creative gift. It was very romantic, actually. Envy of many. Guess Fa deserves more credit than what I gave. Just realized I lost his number. Don’t remember deleting it, guess I did it accidentally or maybe subconsciously…

Purchase of the Year
My own place! From a studio, I stretched to a 3-bedroom. Now gotta look for money to furnish it when ready. Would this be my indulgence for 2006? We’ll see…

Achievement of the Year
Free-style dance class. Completed level 1 & 2. Highly commended for Level I exam! Wo Hoo!! Pat pat on my back!

Song of the Year
The Reason by Hoobastank. This isn’t technically song of the year as it’s old – like 2 years old, I think. But it’s one of those songs that is stuck in my head throughout the year. Now, lagu wajib k-ok.

Movie of the Year
Gol & Gincu! An underdog, obviously. I just love this movie. Sure, it’s a no brainer compared other Hollywood stuff but it exceeded my expectations tremendously. Simple story but cool characters, songs and superb editing, script and casting. Just the right amount of humor, drama and lessons in life.

Ok..that’s all I can recall at the top of my head. I shall end the award list here. Has it been a good year? Yeah! I must have my winter every year – had it again this year, thanks to the good-old CeBIT. Heck, I call this the Perfect year – not the universal perfect just Perfect-for-Me.

See you in 2006! Life rocks!

DoB, pls. Thank you.

Hehe…a simple request. Almost all I sent to replied. Being the natural born analyzer I couldn’t help but analyze the replies:
90% of them replied giving me the date & month, no year and asked WHY.
2 persons replied with no answer but simply WHY?
KA won most-paranoid-award hands down with her..”WHY, what’s wrong?”
30% of the above-mentioned 90% had to be persuaded to give the year of birth – all shy2 with alasan..”dah tua..” macam la orang tak nampak hahaha…(jangan amik ati yek)
While the remaining 40% of the 90% simply tot the year was an insignificant info to give – (hello..phone calendar entry requires this...)
A few people excited mintak presents…(ye lah..I’ll surely bagi one..)
Only 5% of the total sample replied as per request D. O. B, with no questions asked – I concluded them to be very confident of their age and that they trust me.
Of course not forgetting some quirky comments like “nak check Feng Shui ke?” and the most-kurengs award went to “Ko buang tebiat ke?” – you know who you are!
I guess quirky comments came from those who know me too well. Memang I’m feng shui-ly inclined and… buang tebiat la kot coz this is so unlike me.
So, you must be wondering why I “buang tebiat”? Simple, I forgot KI’s birthday despite discussing about it a month in advance. I’m so sorry, buddy… so out of guilt and to redeem myself, I decided to update my phone calendar and alert myself on other people’s birthday. Birthdays are special occasions and even a simple sms can lift up dSpecial day…
I also decided to save this database of birthdays into an excel sheet (mana tahu nanti tukar phone ke apa kan...) And what started with only names and DoB, has now expanded to Western and Chinese horoscope signs as well hehehe…might as well kan…ye lah NA, I might as well check feng shui sekali…Interesting to find out who are my “secret friends”, “allies”, etc..
ED saw my database..”takde keje…” Ye lah..aku cuti hahaha…
You know what they say about the Information Age right? Information is power. Now that I have this database at hand, there’s no telling what I might do and how creative I can be… kah kah kah..(gelak evil). Whoever yg dah bagi info and reading this, sah2 menyesal.
No worries la friends..bukan niat jahat pun…niat baik nak bagi present nanti…paling jahat pun I will use the database to select 4D numbers to buy :D
To all those birthdays I missed this year, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! (I’ll do better next year!)
